We invite you to explore the Lodge and its surrounding 12,000-acre nature reserve through our on-site experiences. Copal Tree Lodge is a wonder to explore on its own—but the jungles that surround it offer amazing adventures you can only get in beautiful Belize. Hike through the foothills of the Maya Mountains, tour the nearby Jungle Farm, kayak down the Rio Grande, explore on horseback, work out at the gym, enjoy a sunset cruise, or breathe the day away at the Yoga Palapa—there are so many choices waiting for you in paradise.
For the traveling foodie, outstanding culinary experiences are available every week. With a farm tour, distillery tour, chocolate-making class, or coffee cupping, you’ll enjoy agritourism experiences unmatched anywhere. When you’re not sipping cocktails at a rum tasting or enjoying a bean-to-bar coffee experience, you’ll relax in an immersive eco-luxury jungle locale unique to Southern Belize.
Farm
We are proud to produce the majority of the food we serve at the Garden Table Restaurant. With extensive gardens, tropical fruit trees, and livestock, our day-to-day food production is a hive of activity year round. You can enjoy exploring the farm on your own or ask our front desk clerk about a guided tour.
Biking
A selection of classic fat tire cruisers provide superb maneuverability through the dirt roads of the farm and narrow streets of Punta Gorda and surrounding villages. Biking through town offers a unique perspective of the sights, local culture and sounds of the area while offering a fun fitness tour.
Spa & Wellness
The Jungle Spa at Copal Tree Lodge is a luxurious experience like none you’ve experienced before. Complete with panoramic jungle views, this is the perfect place to relax and unwind as you’re pampered by the Lodge’s unparalleled massage specialists. The Serenity Palapa is a wonderful place to try some yoga and connect with nature.
Bird Watching
Belize is a hotspot for birding, as it is right in the middle of the migratory route of most Northern and Southern American species. Its diverse habitats are home to hundreds of Tropical and Neotropical species. Our guides are avid bird watchers and love to show our guests all the birds that call Copal Tree home.
Canoe/Kayak on the Rio Grande
Copal Tree Lodge’s fleet of kayaks is available for your enjoyment—the perfect way to spend an afternoon on the river. You’ll experience wildlife unseen in other parts of the world—from toucans to playful monkeys. Silently paddling along past lush jungle riverbanks, the feeling is complete immersion in nature. Guided kayak tours can be arranged for novices or experts, and our guides are well-versed in the flora, fauna and history of the area.
Hiking
Copal Tree Lodge has several moderate hiking trails to various points of interest throughout the property. Trails on our farm include the Chocolate Trail through our cacao plantation and Sugar Cane Run, which extends around our sugar cane fields outside of the gates. Hiking with a guide at least once is highly recommended as they are overflowing with information on the flora and fauna and are experts at spotting wildlife. Along the trails, you will see birds, mammals, reptiles, amphibians, the tracks of larger nocturnal animals, such as tapirs and jaguars, and various medicinal and edible plants and mushrooms.
Rum Distillery
The distillery is located adjacent to Copal Tree Lodge and its 3,000-acre organic farm. Using that same commitment to the local ecosystem, Copalli Rum is created in a zero-impact facility using a non-hybridized sugarcane varietal native to the area. Tours of the distillery are available. Take the knowledge you gained from the rum tour to a Cocktail Mixology class to fully elevate your palette. There’s so much the jungle has to offer, so come discover it all for yourself.
Horse & Buggy Farm Tour
Take a carriage ride pulled by a horse around the peaceful Copal Tree Farm, where you'll be introduced to the diverse range of organically grown cacao, vanilla, coffee, herbs, vegetables, and fruits. Your coachman will also lead you through our lush sugar cane fields, a key ingredient in the delicious Copalli Rum. As you immerse yourself in the serene beauty, you'll gain a deeper appreciation for sustainable farming and Copal Tree's dining experience.
