Birding

Belize is a hotspot for birdwatching, as it right in the middle of the migratory route of most Northern & Southern American species. Its diverse habitats are home to hundreds of Tropical and Neotropical  species. Our guides are avid bird watchers and love to show our guests all the birds that call Copal Tree home. They have been mentored by some of the region’s leading experts, including noted ornithologist and author of the “Birds of Belize” Dr. Lee Jones, demonstrate a remarkable depth of avian knowledge.

Snorkeling & Diving

Copal Tree Lodge’s guided reef snorkeling tours take guests to the Belize Barrier Reef, the second largest barrier reef in the world, to spot a wide range of aquatic species including sea fans, coral, colorful tropical fish, seahorses, rays, eels and turtles. Divers looking specifically for an encounter with whale sharks should plan their visit between March and June when the gentle giants are just off the coast.  These activities are offered to all Copal Tree Lodge guests and require advance reservations. Please enquire directly with the Lodge regarding equipment, services and dive sites.

Fly Fishing

Perched above the Rio Grande River and just a short boat ride from the Caribbean Sea, our Orvis Endorsed Lodge is a fly fisher’s paradise. Cast for tarpon and snook on the rivers and in the mangroves, spend the day fishing the flats for permit—or head out to the white sand beaches of the Sapodilla Cayes for bonefish. The majority of our fishing takes place in protected marine reserves and national parks. Southern Belize is best known as a world-renowned permit territory—and while most anglers who visit the region are intermediate to advanced, our experts are also happy to guide beginners for a one-of-a-kind fishing experience. Copal Tree Lodge’s guides are all local to the Southern Belize region and will customize each day’s itinerary to your fishing preference and style. They’re extremely patient, professional—and understand that this is your trip. Stay tuned for Children’s Activities pricing.

Our Guides & Practitioners

Copal Tree’s Guides Trip Advisor guest comment: “By far the most amazing activity was the trip to Blue Creek cave and the Lubaantun Mayan ruins. This trip was lead by Vince and Chan, and is absolutely not to be missed! The cave tour was a once-in-a-lifetime adventure (no details – you have to go experience this!), and the Lubaantun tour was amazing. Vince is so knowledgeable about every detail of Mayan history and culture. We also had lunch in Vince’s home, which was a wonderful opportunity! His family was gracious and welcoming, and made an amazing Belizean meal for our group. This was the type of experience every traveller should have.”
